Annabelle’s Saturday Roundup

Check out a few things that have been on my radar à la the internet this week.

TO WATCH

Bonjour! Looks like Emily’s work trip has been extended, as the Netflix original “Emily in Paris” has been renewed for a second season. Whether you loved it or hated it, Lily Collins will be gracing your screen once again in her color-coordinated berets and fashion faux pas. My take on the show is that as much criticism as it’s gotten, it wasn’t meant to be some deep retrospective on the intersection of French and American culture….it’s just a purely fun watch, so don’t read too far into it. Until the season comes out near the end of 2021, keep munching on your Panera baguette wishing it was from Café de la Nouvelle Marie — that’s Emily’s favorite ;).

For all my Harry Styles stans out there, and I know there are a lot of you, it’s practically Christmas. Vogue just released their December cover and it features none other than the former boy band heart throb. My favorite thing about Style’s style (lol) is how much it’s evolved from frat boy to gender-norm defying, expressive, and Gucci-licious (he goes in depth with this in the article). Not only did US Vogue bless us with a range of beautiful photography of Harry amidst the Seven Sisters Cliffs in Sussex, England, but they also chose Harry to be the first solo male on the cover of their magazine EVER.

If you’re as seeped into influencer/blogger culture as I am, you will most definitely get a laugh out of the Instagram account @shitbloggerspost. The page pokes fun at different current, repetitive trends by rounding up the aspirational content of Insta-bloggers into perfectly curated carousel posts — think puffy dresses, tennis courts, and white bed sheets with glasses of chai on top. The account is anonymously run by one very eagle-eyed, pastel-inclined person(s).

TO READ
One of my fave fashion journalists is coming out with her long-awaited coffee table book, HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style! Author Elizabeth Holmes (not the Theranos one) has contributed to the WSJ, NYT, and BoF, but is most notably known for her Instagram story series “So Many Thoughts.” This series highlights the political and diplomatic implications and nuances behind the polished sartorial choices of the British royals. If you never thought there was meaning behind all of Cate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s powder blue power suits, think again. If you want to pre-order the book, check it out here!

TO WEAR
I peruse Rent the Runway all the time for fun (and because I like to pretend I’ve been invited to black-tie charity galas). RTR is great because you can rent designer pieces for great prices, and I’ve used the service for some high school dance dresses a time or two. While I haven’t rented anything since, the program allows you to feel like the bee’s knees for a few days without the scary price tag or sales associates peering over your shoulder. My eye has been caught by this dress, jacket, sweater, and purse

TO PLAY
With Thanksgiving break fast approaching, I’ve been searching for ways to keep myself and my fam entertained in a way that doesn’t require me to put real pants on. Puzzles are precisely that. Me and Ellie’s favorite OG blogger, Kiel James Patrick, recently released this beautiful,1000-piece jigsaw depicting a cozy Vermont farm in the fall. Other finds are this meta one and another (slightly easier) 500-piece women’s march one. Brew yourself some hot cocoa, throw some Queen’s Gambit on in the background, and start searching for those edge pieces!
