Homecoming is a night of primping, photo-taking, gawking over other girls dresses, and dancing. But my favorite part of the event is the exciting time leading up to it where I get to scavenge the depths of the internet for a dress. You get an excuse to online shop for hours on end — who wouldn’t love that? Of course, my procrastinator tendencies always kick in and this doesn’t end up happening until the week of the dance.
With that being said, I was elated to find this beautiful For Love and Lemons number a few days before this year’s Homecoming on Amazon (feeling thankful for Prime’s two-day shipping). At the time, there was only one left and it was in my size, so I knew it was a sign sent from the fashion heavens. It’s fun n’ flirty while still holding sartorial value. I’m a sucker for embellishments, so the embroidery and sequined flowers sold me.
The selection of this shawl/coat piece was mainly out of necessity (it was 50 degrees out!), but ended up adding a sassy flair to the outfit.
For a classic touch to my outfit and a little bit of sparkle, I added these J.Crew crystal earrings. The dress left a pretty wide open area on my chest/décolleté area, so a necklace helped visually break up that space.
Because my entire ensemble was black and silver, this fuzzy, wine-colored clutch was a fun addition that added a little pop of color (as well as some storage for lipstick).
As for the night, it was a killer time for a senior prom with my date and friends. We did a dinner at one person’s house and photos at another, so it was a chill time all around.
Happy Homecoming!
