Day at the Museum

Needing a little creative inspiration, Annabelle and I decided to take a mini day trip today around Kansas City. What started out as a quick lunch at the Nelson Atkins museum turned into a whole adventure! Of course, the two of us can’t go anywhere without snapping some pics, so we thought we’d share.

Annabelle and I kicked off our day with a quick coffee from Front Range Coffeehouse, a mountain-themed coffee shop near us that reminds us of our cabin in Colorado. I sipped my iced lavender honey latte while we perused the new Clairvaux boutique a few doors down. The store is new, and brings “Parisian chic” and “California cool.” The price tags are pretty out of our range, but it never hurts to look around – right?

Our only official plans for the day had been to munch on a midday meal at Rozzelle Court, the gorgeous cafe inside the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art near us. The restaurant itself is casual dining most days, but the atmosphere is the stuff of dreams. The stunning setting imitates a 15th century open-air Italian courtyard, complete with high columned ceilings, a wishing fountain, and a dramatic skylight.

We really meant to pop in only for lunch, but were too tempted by the museum’s floors of historic art. We opted to stay and explore the Nelson’s collection of art from every continent and time period – and definitely got our steps in!

Inspired the Italian atmosphere of the museum, we ended our day out with some cozy homemade flatbread at home.
