New Year’s Eve: Four Ways

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s to not take any of the little things for granted. On New Year’s Eve, those particular things included glitter eyeshadow and sparkling grape juice. Celebrating from the comfort of our home, we took the intimate soiree as an opportunity to throw together a whole palette of looks that embrace the extravagance of the holiday, while incorporating the….errrr….quirkiness of this year. Paired with the Andy Cohen/Anderson Cooper Times Square Special and dumplings from Blue Koi, we made up for the circumstances with plenty of cheer to go around.

My award for most likely to re-wear goes to our first look, as I love the funky combination of textures and accessories. The shoulder flare on the blouse screams “I’m so ready for this year to be over” while remaining ever so chic. The matching leopard coat and leopard belt also give the look a very urban jungle touch. To complement the modernity of the outfit, I threw on a quick messy pony (giddyup!).

One of our fashion idols (and also host of her own new show on HBO, Stylish), Jenna Lyons is the muse behind this “classic with a twist” look. I couldn’t help but feel like a princess wearing a maximalist tulle skirt Ellie acquired in China. After topping it off with this wintry J.Crew sweater and practical crossbody, the look was the perfect for an Aprés ski fairytale.

Step right up to the Cook Sister Circus! Something about this look reminded me and Ellie of American Horror Story Freak Show, but we couldn’t pass up the festive burgundy and gold color combo. This revolutionary war-style Free People Jacket is an A-lister in my closet, so it felt right to throw on for one of my favorite holidays. Not only was this beanie great for keeping my noggin toasty, but it made the outfit a little more ~edgy~.

Recycling a dress from a high school dance is always a good idea, especially when you style it to look straight out of a Regency era romance novel. Continuing on this trajectory, I’ll be wearing a ballgown by our next blog post. Touches like the crisp white oxford, cameo pendant necklace, and fake fawn fur clutch add whimsical detail and intrigue.

Whether you spent NYE strapped up in stilettos or kicking it in slippers, we wish you all a joyous and fabulous 2021!
