Foliage Fashion

While pre-5 p.m. sunset times can make late fall a bit of a drag, one major pro I’ve found is that the cooler weather allows for more expression when styling my outfits. I seize this by piling on the layers. Hard. I love the endless combinations that can come from a shirt stacked below a sweater stacked below a coat and scarf. Hello sartorial opportunity!

So how exactly did I stumble upon this outfit for a breezy autumnal day photoshoot? Over Thanksgiving break, my mom and I watched HBO’s “Very Ralph” documentary, which recounts the life of Ralph Lauren and how he built his fashion empire by creating a fantasy lifestyle around his clothing. Feeling inspired by his quintessential photography and styling, I went upstairs to put together an ensemble reminiscent of classic RL, while still working in that Penny Press flair.

First order of action: a recently acquired Madewell beret to add a touch of fun (I’m not one to like my outfits too stuffy and serious). These polka dot tights also incorporated a little whimsy to this preppier look.

This bag and coat are both killer steals from my mom’s closet. This is my go-to for finding a strategically curated collection of everything from classic western to and out-there pieces.
